Ribbon Fairy by Saturated Canary

Happy Thanksgiving
I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

I wanted to share a couple of things with you.  First there are a lot of us color artist out there that love to create the “Over The Top” cards.  We put lots of this and that and spend oodles of money on embellishments.  Why not make our own flowers with all of the ribbon we have.  It is really easy and our options only end with our imagination.

The second thing is…I was reminded on our design team blog this week about dying ribbon with distress inks or dye inks and pads.  I’ve been so involved in airbrushing everything I forgot about this technique.

We are going to start by dying our own ribbon.  The 1.5” Wrinkle Ribbon is perfect for this technique.  I wanted a good contrast therefore; I started with the ribbon dry.  For a softer look you should wet it first.  Run one edge of the ribbon on one inkpad.  Run the other edge in another inkpad.  Now mist with water and work the edges until they bleed to the middle.

To make the flower fold ribbon in half and do a loose stich so you can gather it tight to create a circle.  Close it with a tight stich.  Now run needle through the bottom about half way up.  Working with the top laying run a small slip stich and gather.  Close it to the bottom layer with a tight stich.  Repeat all the way around until you have a flower.  Add a brad in the center.

The cream flower was rubbed on a dark yellow inkpad and spritzed with water.

The little yellow flower buds were created with 4/8” wrinkle ribbon dyed with yellow ink pad.  Gathered in the middle and tied off.  I used a flower punch to create a base from green cardstock that was folded up and around to create the bud J

Here is the Color Palette ... feel free to PIN IT :)
