"Keep calm and put the kettle on."

Here is a quick are super easy gift bag for a friend who may be in need of a little relaxation.

I used a white paper sack.  I did cut off 3 inches from the top.  Stamp and emboss your favorite swirl all over it.  I used the swirl from the Jumbo Poppy.  I also combined white embossing powder with the kaleidoscope embossing powder. When done, fold top of bag down to make a flap.

I filled mini misters with distress stains, then randomly spritzed the bag.  Wipe the color from the embossed areas with dry paper towel.

Stamp and emboss "Keep calm and put the kettle on." and Royal Teapot with kaleidoscope embossing powder.  Use a dark contrasting card stock.  You will see the versatility of kaleidoscope embossing powder.

Using a gathered ribbon, run a bead of glue and roll it into a flower shape.  Spritz with Beacon Stiffen Stuff, then sprinkle a little teal micro glitter.

Here is a close up.  I also did the same with the ribbon trim on the bag.

Yes, it includes one of my favorite things, tinting Fast Finish Decoupage.  Fast Finish is a thin and fast drying decoupage by Beacon.  Tinting it is easy.  In a small container pour a little Fast Finish.  Put a few drops of dye in.  The more ink the darker the decoupage.

For this project we are going to use.  Dusty Concord, Peeled Paint, Fired Brick and Faded Jeans.

Apply clear Fast Finish to the canvas and the back side of the paper to apply to canvas.

Only use the tinted Fast Finish on the top of the paper.  Tear paper and do a quilted sections covering the canvas.

Stamp the image with Memento Ink

Dry brush color on the image with these Distress colors.  I like to use chalking applicators from JoAnn's

Before we start embossing.  Need to cut apart the Make Art from the rest of the image.  Both this sentiment and brushes will need to be layered with matching card stock and attached to the canvas as shown.

Because we are working on a canvas using Boss Gloss and applying with a brush will work best.  Start by doing the edges with Aged Gold

With Aged Marine, Wine, Scarlet, Ochre, Hunter emboss little puddles leading up to and on the tips of the brushes.

Finally add all of the wonderful elements.  Apply Aleene's Paper Glaze and spread with finger or tip of bottle.  Sprinkle  white mica first.  Here are the elements used:

Today I bring you a tutorial on Apricot Plum.

Let's get started.

Stamp you image with Memento ink onto Copic friendly paper.  I always use Xpress Blending card.

These little plums are packed full of color!  Don't be afraid to "Color Outside The Box."  The Plums are colored with V12, V15, V17, RV99, R37, BV08, BG10 and BG72.  Yup, who would have thought all these colors could blend together.  Especially the BG's into the V's.  But they did beautifully.  The inspiration for these colors came from a photo I found on the internet.

The card base is 6x6.  Trip pattern paper 1/1/4" smaller.  Emboss all edges with Aged Gold or Aged Bronze also works well.   Emboss lower right corner with Aged Teal.

Trim top pattern paper.  I used a wood grain paper.  Cut middle section out. Use the cut out shape as shutters by cutting in half.  Stamp leaves randomly on all shown pieces.  Emboss with Pirate Gold and Amethyst embossing powders.  I did a little airbrushing.  You can also ink the edges if you like or leave blank.

Make the doors by folding a small flap on each side and attaching to frame.  Attach lace, layer image as shown and attach to card base.

Add your wonderful elements and you are done.

Here is a close up :)

I sure hope you enjoyed todays tutorial.  This is one of my all time favorites and I really enjoyed coloring it.  It was one of those designs where I had no plan....it just happened.  Don't forget to leave a little love note and better yet...become a new follower!  I will follow your blog too.  I will be back next week with another New Release from Stampendous AND yes, step out photos too :)  Happy Coloring, Rhea

Today I give you, Overlooking Oz in a mini cigar box.

Stamp your image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  Make sure to use Copic XPress Blending Card.

I wanted the image to look old and in sepia tones so I used all of the E 40's to color.

Measure the inside of your box and cut a dark brown or matching piece of paper to exact measurements.  Then cut dark brown paper 1/8 inch larger than image and a piece of kraft paper that is 1/8 inch larger than the dark brown paper.

Stamp and emboss No Place with Clear Bark Embossing Powder.  I then cut out only the section "There's no place like home...."  Next with Aged Bronze Embossing Powder emboss all edged of the image and inside dark brown paper.

Tip; with the aged powder because it is chunky, heat it from underneath the paper.

Next, using adhesive attach the brown paper inside the box and then layer your image with it's matting papers and attach sentiment .  I used pop ups to give it more depth.  For the final touches add trinkets to give it the steampunk look.  I used a mix of products for this project. Here is another look at the final finished project.

Thanks for visiting today don't forget to leave a little love note.  I would love to have you as a follower...I will also follow your blog :)  Just let me know you became a new follower!  Happy Designs.  - Rhea

April 16, 2013

Hi again, this is Rhea, last year Stampendous and Beacon Products collaborated for a week of fun.  We worked with Fast Finish Decoupage from Beacon with Stampendous Stamps and products.  This 5x7 Canvas was my favorite.  I thought I would bring to you today with a full step out tutorial.

You can also use a stretched canvas if you like.  If you use a canvas board it is easier to frame or you can make an altered book cover.  Let's get this project started shall we...

Take 4 or 5 pages out of an old book.  Stamp CRR 158 Nesting Bird in the center of 1 page with Black Archival ink. You will want to use Archival Ink because Fast Finish is water based and very fluid.  Archival is a permanent ink and will not smear once the product is applied. Next, only ink the lower branch and stamp on the same page but at the bottom as shown in photo.  You will tear these separately later.  Set aside.

Background Page - ink and stamp only the upper leaves of the stamp 3 times.  These will be stamped in the upper left hand corner as shown in the photo.

On another page stamp another branch only and set aside.

Dry brush the image with distressed ink pads using chalking applicators.  Lightly swipe ink just like if you were using chalks.   Cut the background page to fit you canvas.  The tear the other images to fit your background page into the arrangement you desire.

TIP:  Make sure to ink the edges of torn pieces.  This will help to give the finish piece dimension.

Now it is time for the fun stuff.  To tint fast finish is really easy.  Put a little Fast Finish Decoupage into a small jar.  Add 2-4 drops of distress ink depending on how dark you want your decoupage.  It is that simple!

I used Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain to make green and brown Fast Finish.

First paint the canvas with regular/clear Fast Finish and the back side of the background paper.  Second cover the back side only of each piece and lay on top of background paper.  Do Not put any Fast Finish on the front side yet.

With paint brush first apply clear paint brush to the section with the nesting bird.  Then brush brown on the two sections with the branches and finally brush the green on the background.

The reason you don't want to paint green all over the background then layer is because the ink will bleed through the book page.

Lightly sprinkle crystal micro glitter over the nesting bird.  Guess what...you can also put a little Fast Finish in a jar and add glitter to it.

Time to add our Elements...
Brush on clear Fast Finish where you want your elements.  Place Bronze MicaGreen Glass GlitterGold Halo Mix.  Once you have everything where you want it.  Generously dab Fast Finish over the top with your brush and let dry.

I hope you've enjoyed this project.  Don't forget to leave a little love, I'm excited to see what you think.  I would also love to have you become a follower :) That would just make my day!  Hugs to you!!!  -Rhea

Hello, Rhea here today bringing you quick tips on coloring hair and skin with copic markers and an even easier tip on making an ordinary A2 card a little more special.

Today I chose to play with V270 Kiddo Hop.  I thought she would be great to practice hair and face.  We will be using Copic Markers in the following colors
HAIR = YR27 YR21 YR24
SKIN = E50 E51 E53

Start with the darkest color YR27.  Lightly flick your color "away" from your shadows out or your darkest areas out.  For instance, where the pony tales gather out.  Or, from the roots out.  Flicking does take practice, practice, practice!  I hold my marker very different than when normal coloring.  I find holding it straight up and down and barely touching the paper helps.  Also flicking it away from me helps.  Practice on scrap paper and do it over and over until you get the feel.  Practice doing it different ways.  You will find your flicking groove...I promise.  Flicking is a very important technique with copic coloring.  I use this technique in many different things such as flower details, folds in dresses even general coloring....all the time!!!!  So do practice :)
next with the middle color YR24 extend your darkest color but only a little bit.  You want to leave lots of white at this point.  White will be your end highlight color.
finally use the lightest color YR 21 to extend color even more...but remember to leave white for your final highlight.  I could go into light source but I will leave that for another day.
Coloring skin with Kiddo's is easy to learn on.  with E50 color the entire face.  Ok, so I have to talk a little about light source.  Imagine the sun is coming from the side of the basket of flowers.  So this is going to be the brightest part of her face.
Now that we have established where the sun is coming and where the brightest part of her face will be. We can now add the shadow.  With E53 add or flick from the outside in just a bit as shown.

with E51 blend by flicking or in circles ... I prefer to flick.  You will still see a little line.

finally with E50 do a final blend.   If you want to deepen shadows you can add be returning to beginning of the steps and repeating process.

To make an ordinary A2 card a little more special I love to use the new Spellbinders A2 Bracket Boarders.  So easy and you can use them from any angle of the card.  They also work on a 5x5 :)

Thanks for visiting today and I will see you again next Thursday for another tutorial.  Happy Crafting :)  -Rhea

Hi, Today I am bringing another you a tutorial with Stampendous.  I am going to use CRR164 Tree Poem and Adirondac Alcohol Inks to make your background paper.

The Tree Poem stamp was was designed by Lisa Hensley who also wrote the poem and it is lovely.  The stamp is great for a little note card like I've done today or a beautiful tag or better yet mix media.

With today's project it is quick and easy taking about 30 minutes.

This is a simple clean note card with a finished inside as well. The background is done with Ranger alcohol inks on glossy cardstock and that's about it.  The stamp is so lovely I didn't want to add anything else to it.

You will need a blending tool with pad. You can see it in the the photo.  I prefer to use Kryon 18K Gold Leafing Pen vs. the metallic mixatives from the ink collection.  I get my pen from JoAnn's.
The inks are found everywhere.  The colors i used for this project are. Sunset Orange, Sunshine Yellow, Stream, Bottle and Slate is in the photo but I didn't use it.  I always have slate out incase I want to tone the colors down or deepen them.  It is a must have color.

I worked one color at a time with this project going from top to bottom overlapping just a bit as you can see.  You want to change your pads with each color :( sorry...keep your colors true on this project.  Now that the first coat is done we are ready to move to the 2nd coat.  This coat you will have to move fast when applying...

Get your yellow ready on your tool and pad.  With the Gold pen dot a couple of place far apart with the gold pen.  Only a couple.   Now quickly work the yellow ink.  See how the gold leaf pen reacts with the alcohol ink.  pretty cool huh.  It makes it look like marble.  Especially when you get into the darker colors.  Repeat this process for all the colors.

Apply a third coat if you want to deepen your colors the gold pen will still react.  I did a third coat.

When you are happy let it dry.  You can heat set it if you like.

Now we are going to emboss our image.  But we have to make sure it is really dry.   It can take a little bit because of the leafing pen.  I heat set mine and let set for a while or let it set over night just to be safe.

I used Clear Bark.  You do want to use a fine detailed powder because of the words on this image and all the fine details.

Using Toffee Crunch ink by Memento Stamp only the leaves.  I used kraft paper.

cut to fit inside of card for note.
finish with a little twine or ribbon.

I hope you enjoyed todays little tutorial on the Tree Poem.  I would love to read your thoughts and comments.  Would love it even more if you became a new follower of my blog!  Enjoy and happy crafting!!!  - Rhea

Hello, Rhea here to bringing another quick and easy tip for Stampendous!  Use your 3D Glue Dots or regular Glue Dots to make glittery flower centers and embellishments.  This inspiration came from my "Bestie" Jennifer Dove who taught this card and oh so simple technique in a class.

The flower is Fresh Bloom.  You can find it at JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby  The sentiment is Beautiful Life.

Most use the 3D Glue Dots in a roll.  I prefer to use them in as individuals from Zots, Thermoweb.  For this flower center I used Teal Micro Glitter.

Pour out a little glitter and dab your glue dot.  I worked it around to really cover it.

For the smaller detailed dots I used the mini glue dots.

And there you have it!  Not only can you use them for flower centers but try using them for any type of embellishments.  Maybe instead of buttons.  Maybe do the mini's on a ribbon to make it a sparkly poka-dot.  You can even take thin double sided tape and make a glitter strip instead of ribbon.

Thanks so much for visiting today!  Hugs - Rhea

Hello, Rhea here again this week to share another Stampendous tutorial with you!  This week is packed with tips!  Learn how to use the new Jumbos Flowers with Template from Stampendous, Dry Brush with Distress Inks, a little tip Fran-tage, and I even included a card pattern. :)

I was inspired by a video posted by Scrapbooking Made Simple.  It was fun to watch Stacy and her giggles were contagious.  So here you go with my version.

You will need the Jumbo Sunflower by Stampendous which comes with it's own templates.  Great tip from Stacy was to mark the templates this side up!!!

I also used Aged Gold, Clear Lemon and Nutmeg embossing powders with Chrystal Micro Glitter.

I forgot to take a picture of using the inner sunflower :(  So I will explain.  It's easy, position the template and with Versa Mark pat the area.  You can see it in the picture.  Then with my fingers I sprinkles a little of each of the above listed embossing powders AND micro glitter.  Then heated :)

Next, take the template that is the shape of the sunflower and position it.  With a finger dauber and Walnut Stain and Mustard Seed lightly work the colors off all the edges of the template.  I started with Walnut stain and then mustard seed taking the mustard seed out farther to give depth.

Stamp the sunflower into the empty shape.  It's easy to line up but don't worry about being perfect!  Art isn't perfect :)  Color wash the sunflower peddles  with Mustard seed first.  Next with wild honey.  For the flower centers I used walnut stain, forrest moss and wild honey.

To apply the color you will lightly load your applicator with color.  Barely touch your image and brush from the inside of the pedal out.  Do not go all the way to the tip of the pedal.  You just want to add a hint of color.  Next you will go to your wild honey.  With this color you will add just a smidge of color from the inside of the pedal out.  This is your shading color.  For the center of the flower do 3/4 with walnut stain then a circle with forrest moss and then a smaller circle with wild honey leaving a small white circle as a highlight.

Remember, this is just like chalking and is only meant to add hints of color.

For the dry brushing/color washing I use mini sponge applicators and I feel these very important.  It looks like an eye make up applicator and there are 2 kinds that are perfect.  They can be found at JoAnn's and Sofft Art Sponges online.  These applicators have the same sponge tip as a finger dauber which allows the color washing to glide smoothly.  If you use a cheeper version such as one from the dollar store brand you will not be happy with your results as the color will skip and be uneven.  They are also the most cost effective applicators as well as I like to dedicate 1 per color.  I want to keep my colors "True."

Here is the pattern.  If you double click on the picture you can enlarge it.
cut a piece of pattern paper 6"x10"
on one side
score @ 2" and make it 2" long
score @ 4" and make it 4" long
flip the card
score @ 2" and make it 2" long
score @ 4" and make it 4" long
flip the card
make cut from the 2" score line and make it a total of 4" long
Flip the card
make cut from the 2" score line and make it a total of 4" long
All top folds are mountains and all bottom folds are valley
The finished card will be a 6x6

Almost done....
Now, take the template that has then center cut out and position it around the stamped colored image. Cover it with Versa Mark then detailed clear embossing powder and heat.  Repeat with the other sunflower.

With Aleene's paper glaze or glossy accents it time to make your centers.  I smeared my paper glaze where I wanted my centers.  Added my Fragments and crushed glass glitter with a dusting of crystal micro glitter.

Fragments and Elements used: Bronzed Mica Fragments, Hunter Fragment, Bronze Crushed Glass, Champaign Crushed Glass

Ok, now I decided to I wanted to add aged gold embossing powder.  I sprinkled it over my crusty goodness and heated it from underneath!  It bubbled and popped and the powder melted and it was AWESOME!!!!  The best part when it cooled the paper glaze was dry!  For Reals!!!  I was so excited I think I squealed.  I loved the effect of having just a dab of embossing aged gold on the top of all the elements.  I am going to have to do that again.

So there you have it my friends.  A long tutorial,  I know,  but I think it was worth it.  And I hope you did to.

Fresh Bloom

March 6, 2013

Hello, Rhea here and this weeks tutorial is for Hobby Lobby.  Who doesn't like Hobby Lobby!  Seriously, where else can you get your favorite Stampendous stamp and a canister set for your kitchen.

I decided to keep todays card quick and simple and I even timed myself.  If you know me, you know quick and simple is NOT in my vocabulary.  This card took a little under 30 minutes!  Yeah, I finally made something in 30 minutes.

All products I used can be found at your local Hobby Lobby Store or on HobbyLobby.com.

The card size is A2.  I used black and red card stock from PaperStudio.  The card base is black card stock with red card stock cut 1/8" smaller.  Final card stock is once again black and cut 1/8" smaller than the red.  Each layered with Zots pop up dots.
Using Fresh Bloom First stamp the background of the black piece of card stock with Versa Mark and then emboss it with Detailed Silver Embossing Powder as shown above.
Next stamp and emboss with detailed black embossing powder your Fresh Bloom.  Make sure to stamp  and emboss on the smooth side of each of your card stocks so you get a nice finish.

Time to finish up.  Put a large silver brad in the center of each silver flower and dot details with Silver Halo Glitter.

For the Red Flower you will fussy cut this flower.  But a black brad in the center but still put the Silver Halo Glitter in the details.

Finally, using red tulle which can also be found at Hobby Lobby, wrap and tie a knot bow around the top layer of card stock.  Dot your glue here and there and sprinkle with Silver Halo Glitter.

I hope you Enjoyed todays quick and easy card.  It would be beautiful as white on white or in any color combo.  I will see you next week!!!  Happy Crafting, Rhea

Hello, Rhea here today to share a fun copic technique my dear friend and amazing Copic Instructor, Jennifer Dove taught me. It has become one of my go to techniques when I want a "Water Color" look or I don't have a lot of time to spend coloring.

Because we will be working with Copic Markers you will need to stamp your CRP179 Violets  with Memento Ink.

We will not be coloring but using a water brush filled with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.  Next you will need a piece of acetate or plastic of any kind to use as your pallet.

Color your markers onto the acetate.  Now take the water brush filled with alcohol an touch the tip of the brush into the color needed.

Starting with the background place the tip of the brush next to the line with you want your darkest color .  then smush and drag out ward.  The lighter the color the less you will see the color until the alcohol dries.  I added the contrast purple after the blue.

Want to put a little personality into your background?  Fill a spritz bottle with the same alcohol your put in your brush.  Make sure to label so you know :)  Also make sure to check the sprayer is away from your face.  Oh sure, you are thinking...."Duh"....but I promise you will spray yourself only once and then you will check every time after that.

Spray a small area of burlap.  Gently lay it on the background for only a few seconds.  You will se it start to work right away.  As it dries you will see the texture of the burlap.

Double click on the photo to enlarge and see the texture from the burlap.

You can do any type of layout with any type of paper.  So I am going to move to another tip!
for this we are going to use Stampendous Micro Glitter and a thin glue or glossy accent type product and a tulle knot bow.  I put the adhesive on my fingers and rubbed it on both sides of the tulle.  Then I lightly dusted the bow with the glitter.  Oh my is it cool.

Unfortunately, it doesn't show in the photo very well.

Add the following elements.  You can see the card before adding Stampendous Elements...they sure do make a big difference.  I used the following attached with Aleene's Paper Glaze and in this order:

Thanks for spending time with me today, see you next week.  Happy Coloring :)  Rhea

Botanical Blooms

Good Morning!  Rhea here and today I am bringing you Botanical Blooms by Stampendous.  How exciting because they asked me to give you a step by step on how I made this card.  I will be doing this for you each week and I am jumping for joy!!!!  So let's get started.

When we are done you will have instructions on making this design.  You can use it to do a class or just for yourself :)

Stamp 2 images with Archival Ink.

Why Archival Ink?  Because we will be dry color washing with Distress Ink and will need a permanent waterproof ink.  If you were to use a pigment ink or memento ink your coloring would cause smearing.

You will need the following Distress colors.  Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint, Worn Lipstick and Squeezed Lemonade.

With Tumbled Glass and sponge mini applicator apply a very light coat to the background only.  The mini sponge applicator is very important.

To get the color even and soft you will barely touch the paper.  You can always add more color but you can not take it away as you will see as we move on.

Next lightly apply worn lipstick to the flowers.  Then with Inkssentials Craft Nib go back with worn lipstick and carefully apply a little darker worn lipstick to the inner part of the flowers.

Now with the yellow apply to the centers and a little here and there to the background to add a variation.

With peeled paint lightly wash the leaves not worrying about staying in the lines.  This will also add to the background.

Add more tumbled glass to darken then light areas left in the background

Now that the images are colored you will trim one around the edges.  The other will be cut into 1 3/4" squares x 4.  Next it is time to emboss the entire image with Stampendous Chunky Clear.  Wipe Versa Mark all over the front and dip into the chunky clear powder.  Before I heated it I sprinkled a little of the Chrystal Micro Glitter on top.  This will melt into the powder and be beautiful.

Tip:  I keep my most used embossing powder in a food storage container.  Keeps it much easier to use and no waste :)

Here it is after it is heated.  Super shinny and full of sparkle!

Now all you have to do is mat and assemble and embellish and you are done.  The card is a 6x6.  You could also do many different variations of this design.  You could easily add a sentiment.  Try doing a smaller version and leave off the smaller squares.  Try leaving off the large background and just do the squares.  Emboss the background on dark paper!  This image is very versatile.  Maybe I will do another version in a few weeks :)

Thanks for visiting and I would love to read you comments!  I would also love to have you become a follower of my blog!  Happy designing :)  Rhea
